Part-time Reggio-inspired Administrative Specialist


At Laurelwood, we are inspired by the world-renowned Reggio Emilia approach to early education, which focuses on inquiry and discovery while emphasizing learning through the natural sciences and expressive arts in a play-based environment. Our goal is to stimulate children’s learning, support critical thinking and make learning visible. We achieve this goal by engaging in project-based learning, collaboration between children, educators, and family members and documentation of the students’ learning during the process.

The Administrative Specialist will work up to 20 hours per week with full-time potential, if desired. Flexible work schedule with off-site and on-site work. Availability between the hours of 8:00 and 6:00 are needed as well as the ability to work any day Monday through Friday. Participation in weekend school events, weekend professional development and evening meetings occassionally required. Will work hand-in-hand with the owner on school’s expansion.

Highlights of Position

  • Operating child care software including billing (prorating bills, calculating refunds, entering data)
  • Tracking of attendance and payroll processing (deducting time, entering hours, calculating holiday pay, running reports, entering data, funding 401(k) accounts)
  • Scheduling and ensuring the center is properly staffed. Willing to fill in where needed in order to learn the staff, children and parents better. If no other substitutes are available, will stand in for Operations Assistant, Educators and Extended Care Teachers. Will stand in for Directors as needed.
  • Working with the owner on school expansion project
  • Liaising between Parent Advisory Board and school staff
  • Contributing in staff meetings, school functions, outside meetings, professional development, etc.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Director in a Reggio-inspired early learning center of at least 60+ children
  • Active participant in an expanding school, understanding what it takes to ensure success with multiple locations
  • Extensive study of Reggio-inspired practices, preferably having visited the preschools in Reggio Emilia, Italy
  • Exposure to many different Reggio-inspired schools through visitations, educator exchanges, professional development, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in fundraising methods
  • Experience with Parent Advisory Board and utilizing them to enrich the school through volunteering, fundraising, etc.
  • Demonstrated self-motivated individual with creative ideas on how to better a school for its children, their parents, staff, and the community
  • Effective use of Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint applications and social media.
  • Proven track record of thinking outside of the box

Education
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Child and Family Studies or Bachelor’s degree in related field with 18 semester hours in ECE courses. Master’s preferred.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Must be able to successfully pass criminal background check. Submission of physician-approved Medical Report and negative TB test.
