Teaching in the Reggio approach is a multi-faceted process. Like peeling an onion with many layers, Reggio educators must hone their craft. This work includes careful observation, research, and collaboration with peers. Laurelwood supports the work of its educators.
Learning from one another
We provide on-site training as well as educational exchanges with other schools to further our knowledge of child development, early childhood education, and the Reggio Emilia approach. Each week, our teachers meet as a group with the Director of Education to discuss and reflect on observations from the classrooms, studio, and playscape, and to strategize about how to further children’s learning.
Connecting beyond Laurelwood
Our most important professional-development days take place at the North American Reggio Emilia Alliance conferences, held semi-annually. We arrange to attend one conference each year to connect with other Reggio schools across the country, Italian educators, and other respected professionals in early childhood education.
